Work Based Education & Training offers vocational industry based training and experience for young people aged 14 to 19 years old. We have a highly popular programme offering personalized learning through two different course routes. Both the Active Adventure course and the Soccer Academy course offer learners an opportunity to gain a number of practical based qualifications, while learning key information and skills for working within the sports and outdoor recreation coaching and instructing industry.

Sport Support Services Work Based Education & Training courses offer high quality learning in a very ‘real’ environment, which has been praised for its suitability for young people with whom we work. The young people attending our courses are treated as junior members of our staffing team, with a trainee status as they work towards an assistant instructor level in sports and outdoor adventurous activities.

ACTIVE ADVENTURE Specific Course Contents

Learners participate in a wide variety of outdoor adventurous activities (OAA), including archery, team building challenges, canoeing, climbing, kayaking, problem solving, orienteering and camp crafts. Working towards a Sport Support Services ‘ACTIVE ADVENTURE (OAA) ASSITANT INSTRUCTORS COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE’ and going towards elements of the DUKE OF EDINBURGH BRONZE AWARD (which we will register learners for).

Learners take part in structured training sessions to improve their own ability and team play, while focussing on how to structure a soccer session themselves. This involves them learning how to break down skills to teach and develop with others, understanding fitness and health and planning a soccer specific fitness session, implementing the SAQ concept into soccer and analysing and improving tactical play. Trainees are also taught how to organise a tournament, referee and assure fair play. Through doing this they can work towards achieving a Sport Support Services SOCCER ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE and a FA JUNIOR FOOTBALL ORGANISORS AWARD.
